More than two-thirds of all children experience one or more sleep problems at least a few nights a week. Inadequate sleep in children may lead to other problems such as headaches, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning difficulties and growth failure. In addition, many neurologic conditions such as seizures, autism, bipolar disorder and tics are often accompanied and exacerbated by sleep problems. The Sleep Disorders Clinic offers expertise in diagnosis and treatment of all types of sleep disorders in children and adolescents ranging from simple insomnia and parasomnias to more significant medical conditions such as sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Our approach combines patient education regarding proper sleep hygeine, behavioral therapy and state of the art diagnostic testing including actigraphy and overnight sleep studies/polysomnography.
